New contribution rates and some scheme enhancements will apply from 1 October 2003.
Despite the escalating costs of in-hospital procedures we have been able to restrict our increase in contribution rates to ----
*
No increase in contribution rates for the 60+ band

*
Only 2.75% increase for all other age bands

(there has been no increase for 18 month - a 2.75%increase is less than a pint of beer per fortnight )
* Only one annual increase
(if you move into another age band through the year you will remain on your current band until the next
 annual increase)

ENHANCEMENTS OF BENEFITS
*
NEW - We will pay up to $7,500 for surgically implanted prosthetic devices per procedure (except heart pacemakers)

*
Maximum payout has been increased from $25,000 to $30,000

*
Physiotherapy, Chiropractor, Osteopath & Acupuncture annual payment has been increased from $200 to $400

Because of prudent management your Mutual Health Fund has just completed it's most successful year yet. Now that we are on a sound financial footing and are beginning to build a reserve, the Trustee has decided to hold the

contribution rate for those members who are in the 60+ age band. These members, with the least disposable income, have been struggling since the contribution rates were increased on 1 April 2002 and the Trustee has given recognition to the contribution that these older members have made in the past.
'Firefighters helping Firefighters'
The Trustee has directed that each member should only have one annual increase to their contribution rates (ie if you receive a general increase an age band increase will not apply until the anniversary date of the general increase) so from 1 October 2003, the rate applying to you on that date will be the rate that you contribute until the next general increase, or if there is no general increase you will move onto your next age band on the following 1 October ie if you move into the next age band after 1 October you will
remain on the band that applied as at 1 October until the next general increase or the following 1 October.
