TRUSTEE ELECTION

CONGRATULATIONS to
IAN PICKARD, who was elected as Trustee at our recent AGM Ian has been a past Chairman of the Welfare Society so it's particularly nice to see him back now as a Trustee of the Society
Thanks to Russell Postlewaight for serving his term as Trustee.
The Welfare Society has two Trustees. Our other current Trustee is Steve Shackleton, from Nelson.


WINNER OF HOLIDAY HOME DRAW
DENNIS WRIGHT - a new member, from Kaitaia , has won the second draw for the year for three free nights accommodation in one of our holiday homes. remember, there is one more draw for members joining between 1 October - 31 December so if any of your fellow firefighters aren't members get them to ring the office before the end of the year for an application pack.

AGM NEWS
Thanks to Kevin Crozier our Region 5 Rep for organising such a successful meeting in Christchurch . Thanks also to Brian Joyce, the Regional Commander for opening the meeting and to Marlene Le-Creen for a most informative address on obtaining the steel from the Twin Towers and the erection of the "Tribute to Firefighters" - if any of you are in Christchurch be sure and visit the site - just across the road from the Central Station.

BENEFIT ENTITLMENTS
Are you entitled to any of the following benefits?
If you, don't let us know that you have a problem / require assistance, we won't know - it only takes a phone call to the office , your Regional Rep ,(see back cover) or your local WSDO (Welfare Society District Officer) to check your entitlements. (They have all been house trained and don’t bite.)
NB - if you don't have a poster on these benefits or one of our Workplace Folders (a yellow folder) at your workplace let us know so that we can get one to the Station
Funeral Benefit - Adult (under 60 years) $3,000, Child $1,000
Holiday & Convalescent Homes - $50 per night
Gift Baskets - Sickness at home or in hospital
Discretionary Loans & Grants - up to $500
Ambulance Assistance Benefit - up to $500
Sickness Benefit
Home Visits - from WSDO
In Hospital TV Rental
Corrective Lens Benefit - 1st pair $150 - $300 pa
Hearing Aid Benefit - up to $250 pa
Birth of a Child Benefit - $50 per new born
Also assistance with the following costs
Travel for out-of-town medical visits
15cents per km up to $50 per claim- up to $150 pa
Home Help - temporary incapacitated - at $20 per day -$250 pa
Relationship Counselling - $150 pa
Adoption -up to $250 per claim - $500 pa


Holiday & Convalescent Homes

Sick/Convalescent Members? -remember that our homes are available for convalescent purposes so if you know of any member whom you think could take advantage of this let us know.
Care Deposit -some regular users of the homes leave their care deposit in the office so that's it's there ready for next time they wish to make a booking - if you wish to do this just let the office know next time you make a booking
NB your care deposit can only cover one booking so if you are making another booking before your current care deposit is due to be refunded you will need to send in a second deposit
Reciprocal Arrangements
-don't forget that we have reciprocal
arrangements with the NZ Police and the NZ Army to use their holiday homes - see the back cover for the relevant telephone nos. Ring them directly - the Police will then ask you to ring the office for us to confirm your membership.

BALLOT PERIODS
Ballot Periods -the following are the ballot periods and the dates on which they are drawn
Applications close after the mail has been received the day before the ballot is due. If we have not received your $50 deposit your name will not be included in the ballot.
February/March/April drawn on 1st (or first working day following) November

If you plan to spend a day or several days in Taupo, the Kapiti Coast, Nelson or Queenstown ring the office and check whether there are any vacancies in our homes before paying out for motels
