NEW INSURANCE,

Aon Risk Services have added a new insurance policy to the options available to members of the NZFWS.
Lawsafe covers an individual and/or members of the family residing with you forany legal defence costs incurred whilst defending a legal action taken against you.
The sum insured is $100,000.
Examples of events you will be covered for include: property disputes, motor vehicle offences, which may result in imprisonment, sexual harassment claims, accusations of theft, local authority disputes, criminal prosecutions etc. The policy also entitles the owner to 24-hour free access to a lawyer.
There are, as always some rules and exclusions. These are:
There must be a reasonable presumption of innocence. Excludes events known or occurring prior to the effective date of cover. Repeat offences or allegations. Family, matrimonial, custody or will disputes. Employment disputes
An example that may well be known is that of the Auckland ambulance driver who killed a a woman crossing the road who was both hearing and sight impaired. Despite the fact the driver had his lights flashing and siren on the woman stepped into the path of the ambulance. The driver was charged with careless drivingcausing death and incurred defence costs of approximately $87,000.
In a community that is becoming increasingly litigious, this type of cover is becoming increasingly valuable.
