Fire and Emergency New Zealand wants to ensure that all personnel have access to the support they need. If this book raises any issues, or you are struggling with work or life in general, please reach out.
Self referral is available to our employment assistance providers EAP Services Ltd (0800 327 669) or Vitae (0508 664 981). You can contact them directly to set up an appointment.
You can also get information or access support through your peer support team, region safety, health and wellbeing advisors, welfare officer, injury management unit, and you can always talk to your OIC/manager. For a full list of contact details, please refer to the Fire and Emergency Portal.

Members of the New Zealand Firefighters Welfare Society can utilise our counselling benefit.  You can make claims up to $500.00 per annum.  To access this benefit you will need to source your own Mental Health provider, pay initially then claim back your costs by completing a BA1 claim form and attaching your receipts.

We have various holiday/convalescent homes around the country which also maybe of some benefit for time away and recovery.

As a recognised association of
Fire and Emergency we can assist with the entry into the referral system of Fire and Emergency. You can do this by contacting one of our local board representatives. We are required to work with the local health, safety and wellbeing coordinator and can refer to Clinical Psychologist.

We are also happy to support any
Fire and Emergency personnel into this process.

Our social support network is a significant part of our coping mechanism.  The support that is received from our family and friends is the most beneficial.   Without the support and understanding from family and friends  many personnel would not be able to fulfill their roles.  The NZFFWS and Fire and Emergency recognises this and aims to provide specific support for family and friends.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand understands that the work undertaken by their personnel can have an effect on families. Without the support and understanding from family and friends, many personnel would not be able to fulfil their roles. This is why we have made support services available to immediate family members. If you need help, or you notice that your partner/family member is struggling, it is important to reach out. Family members, like Fire and Emergency personnel, are able to self refer to our employment assistance providers EAP Services Ltd (0800 327 669) or Vitae (0508 664 981). You can contact them directly to set up an appointment.
